Security agencies in Kogi State have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe. The jailbreak, which occurred in the early hours of March 24, 2025, led to the escape of at least twelve inmates and the tragic death of a correctional officer.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the successful recapture of five of the escapees while collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to track down the rest. Sources within the facility revealed that the attack was carried out by heavily armed men, who overpowered security personnel before facilitating the prisoners' escape.
Residents of Koton Karfe have expressed concerns over the safety of their community, urging the government to deploy additional security forces to prevent further disturbances. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to law enforcement. Meanwhile, the deceased officer has been identified, and his family is set to receive official compensation.
