Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the Nigerian Army’s decision to rename the Ikeja Cantonment after the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away earlier this year.
Speaking at a memorial event held at the cantonment, Sanwo-Olu described Lagbaja as a dedicated and courageous military leader who played a significant role in securing Nigeria against insurgency and internal threats. The governor praised his unwavering commitment to national service and emphasized that renaming the military base after him was a fitting tribute to his legacy.
The Nigerian Army officially renamed the facility “Lt. Gen. Lagbaja Military Cantonment” in recognition of his contributions to national security and military reform. Senior military officials, government representatives, and family members of the late COAS were present at the renaming ceremony.
Sanwo-Olu assured the Nigerian Army of the Lagos State government’s continued support in strengthening security and improving the welfare of military personnel. He also encouraged young officers to emulate Lagbaja’s dedication and discipline in service to the nation.
