The Rivers State Police Command has issued a stern warning to militant groups threatening oil production in the region, vowing to take decisive action against any elements attempting to disrupt economic activities.

This comes amid growing concerns over renewed militant activities that could negatively impact Nigeria’s oil sector, a key source of national revenue.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Okon Effiong, intelligence reports indicate that certain militant groups have been making moves to sabotage oil installations and disrupt operations in protest against perceived government neglect and political instability in the state. He assured residents and stakeholders that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to prevent any security breaches.

“The Nigerian Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, will not tolerate any form of criminality that threatens national economic interests. We are prepared to deploy all necessary resources to neutralize any threats posed by these groups,” Effiong said.

Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing states, has experienced security challenges in the past due to militant activities. Previous disruptions have led to significant financial losses for the country, making the latest threats a serious concern for both the government and international oil companies operating in the region.

The police have urged community leaders and stakeholders to work closely with security agencies in identifying and reporting any suspicious activities that could jeopardize peace and stability in the region.
