President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025. This appointment coincides with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, on the same date.


Profile of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi

Ogunjimi, 57, is a seasoned financial expert with over three decades of experience in public sector accounting and financial management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master’s in Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ogunjimi has held several key positions, including Director of Finance at the Federal Ministry of Works and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance. His tenure in these roles has been marked by significant reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in government financial operations.

Mandate and Expectations

In his new role, Ogunjimi is expected to oversee the country's treasury, ensure prudent management of public funds, and implement policies that promote fiscal responsibility. His appointment comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to combat corruption and improve public sector accountability.

President Tinubu, while congratulating Ogunjimi, urged him to uphold the principles of integrity, professionalism, and dedication to national service. The President expressed confidence that Ogunjimi's vast experience would contribute significantly to the administration's economic reforms and good governance agenda.
