Opposition parties in Nigeria have labeled the recent endorsements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election as nothing more than a "political sham," dismissing it as a calculated move by loyalists to create a false narrative of public support.
Recently, several political figures and groups within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have publicly expressed their support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing his ongoing economic and security reforms. However, opposition parties argue that these endorsements do not reflect the true sentiments of the Nigerian populace, many of whom are grappling with economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity.
A spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) accused the APC of attempting to manipulate public perception ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that the administration has not delivered enough on its promises to warrant a second term.
Meanwhile, supporters of the president insist that his policies, particularly in economic restructuring and infrastructure development, are gradually yielding results, and that he remains the best candidate to continue leading the country beyond his first tenure.
With the next general elections still years away, political analysts predict that these early endorsements are part of a larger strategy to solidify Tinubu’s grip on power within the party and beyond.
