In a significant move to support education in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of N634 million to cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) fees for all students in public secondary schools.
The governor made the announcement during an education summit held in Akure, stating that the initiative aims to relieve parents of financial burdens and ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to sit for the WAEC examination due to financial constraints.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s commitment to quality education, stating that investing in students’ academic futures is a priority. He assured that the state government would continue to implement policies that improve access to education, provide necessary learning materials, and upgrade school facilities.
Teachers, parents, and education stakeholders have lauded the initiative, describing it as a major step toward reducing dropout rates and improving academic performance among students in the state.
The Ondo State Ministry of Education has begun the disbursement process to ensure timely payment of the examination fees before the WAEC registration deadline.
