The newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has urged Nigerians to embrace the values of tolerance, compassion, and peaceful coexistence as the Muslim community marks the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking at the Eid prayer ground in Oyo, the traditional ruler emphasized the importance of fostering harmony among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds. He noted that Eid-el-Fitr is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity for self-reflection and the promotion of kindness and understanding within society.
Oba Owoade, who recently concluded the traditional 21-day seclusion period known as Ipebi, a sacred rite performed by new Alaafins, used the occasion to highlight the need for greater unity and cooperation among Nigerians. He called on leaders and citizens alike to work towards a society where love and mutual respect prevail over division and discord.
"As we celebrate the end of Ramadan, let us remember the teachings of this holy month, patience, sacrifice, and charity. These values should guide us in our daily interactions, ensuring that we build a nation where peace and unity thrive," the Alaafin said.
The monarch also expressed his commitment to upholding the legacy of the revered Alaafin dynasty while fostering progress and development within the Oyo Kingdom. His message resonated with attendees, who welcomed his call for inclusivity and national cohesion.
As the celebrations continue, Oba Owoade urged the Muslim faithful to extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, reinforcing the true essence of Eid as a time of sharing and gratitude.
