Amid rising health concerns, the Lagos State government has launched an emergency diphtheria vaccination campaign at King’s College to curb the spread of the infectious disease.
Diphtheria, a bacterial infection that affects the respiratory system, has seen a resurgence in parts of Nigeria, prompting health authorities to intensify preventive measures. The Lagos State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with federal agencies, has rolled out a targeted vaccination drive for students and staff at King’s College, one of the country’s premier institutions.
Health officials confirmed that the initiative is part of broader efforts to prevent an outbreak in densely populated areas. Parents and guardians have been urged to ensure their children receive the vaccine, as health experts warn of potential complications associated with untreated diphtheria.
The government has also assured residents that additional vaccination centers will be set up across the state, particularly in schools, to contain the spread of the disease.
