Nigerian telecommunications giant, Globacom, has announced plans to celebrate the life and legacy of the late NBA legend and philanthropist, Dikembe Mutombo. Mutombo, who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 58 after battling brain cancer, was renowned not only for his basketball prowess but also for his extensive humanitarian efforts, particularly in Africa.

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mutombo's illustrious NBA career spanned from 1991 to 2009. He earned eight All-Star selections and was a four-time Defensive Player of the Year, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest defensive players in basketball history.

Beyond the court, Mutombo was celebrated for his philanthropy, serving as the NBA's first Global Ambassador and advocating for the transformative power of basketball worldwide.

Globacom's decision to honor Mutombo underscores the profound impact he had both as an athlete and humanitarian. While specific details of the tribute have yet to be disclosed, the company has expressed its commitment to celebrating Mutombo's contributions to sports and society.
