The upcoming coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, is set to be a grand affair, attracting dignitaries from around the globe. Among the esteemed guests is former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, alongside ambassadors from Spain, Brazil, Colombia, and Portugal. Over 200 Canada-based indigenes of Oyo are also expected to grace the event.


Scheduled for April 5, the coronation ceremony will be preceded by a week-long series of cultural and academic events commencing on March 31. The festivities will kick off with a cultural parade, showcasing the rich heritage of the Oyo Kingdom. A public lecture featuring renowned scholars such as Professors Anthony Asiwaju, Akin Alao, and Siyan Oyeweso is slated for April 1. Additionally, a stage play titled "Aremo Aderonmu," written by Gbemi Faleti, will be performed at Ajayi Crowther University on April 3.

Justin Trudeau's presence at the coronation underscores the international recognition of the Oyo Kingdom's cultural significance.
