The political landscape in Kogi Central Senatorial District has been thrown into turmoil as a recall petition against suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan gains momentum. A coalition of petitioners has submitted over 250,000 signatures to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking her removal from office.

This development follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate on March 6, 2025, over alleged misconduct. The petitioners argue that she has failed to adequately represent the interests of the constituency, citing various grievances, including claims of poor legislative performance and political tensions with key stakeholders.

Legal analysts suggest that for the recall process to be successful, INEC must verify that the signatures represent at least 50% plus one of the registered voters in the district. If verified, the commission will proceed to organize a referendum to determine the senator’s fate.

While Akpoti-Uduaghan has yet to officially respond, her supporters have dismissed the move as a politically motivated attack orchestrated by her opponents. Political observers are closely monitoring the unfolding drama, as INEC prepares to take the next steps in line with electoral guidelines.
