Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has spoken out against the growing trend of artificial beauty enhancements, particularly Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL), in the Nigerian film industry. Adesanya, who has been in the industry for decades, warned that such trends may soon lose their appeal as beauty standards continue to evolve.
In a recent interview, she noted that many young actresses are increasingly relying on physical enhancements rather than focusing on developing their acting skills. According to her, Nollywood should be a space where talent and dedication take precedence over appearance.
"People will always chase after what is in vogue, but one thing that never goes out of style is talent. Today, it’s BBL; tomorrow, it will be something else. But real substance and skills will always remain relevant," Adesanya stated.
She expressed concerns that the new generation of actresses may feel pressured to conform to unrealistic beauty standards rather than investing time in mastering their craft. The actress emphasized that while physical appearance might attract attention initially, long-term success in the film industry depends on an actor’s ability to captivate audiences with their performance.
Adesanya’s remarks add to the ongoing debate about the role of beauty standards in Nollywood. While some argue that personal appearance matters in the entertainment industry, others insist that true artistry comes from the ability to bring characters to life convincingly.
With Nollywood growing into a globally recognized industry, Adesanya believes now is the time to redefine what truly makes an actress stand out. She urged upcoming talents to prioritize hard work, passion, and consistency over fleeting trends.
