On January 13, 2025, Mojisola Meranda assumed the role of acting Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the impeachment of the then-Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa. During her tenure, Ms. Meranda approved the disbursement of ₦5 billion for the procurement of 40 units of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, intended for the use of the assembly members. This decision was executed promptly after her assumption of office.
However, Ms. Meranda's tenure as acting Speaker was short-lived. On March 3, 2025, Mr. Obasa was reinstated as Speaker, reportedly following directives from President Bola Tinubu. Upon his return, Speaker Obasa expressed strong objections to the vehicle procurement authorized by Ms. Meranda. He has since demanded the immediate return of the ₦5 billion, asserting that the expenditure was unauthorized and executed without proper consultation.
