In a landmark move that marks a significant step in the restitution of African artifacts, the Netherlands has announced its intention to return 119 Benin Bronzes to Nigeria.

These invaluable artifacts, looted from the ancient Kingdom of Benin in the 19th century, have been held in Dutch museums for decades. The repatriation is the result of years of negotiations and collaboration between the governments of Nigeria and the Netherlands.   

The Benin Bronzes are considered cultural treasures of immense historical and artistic significance.Their return to Nigeria is a momentous occasion, symbolizing the reclaiming of cultural heritage and the restoration of historical narratives.
